After cancellation of visas to the UAE the passenger traffic to Dubai has increased by three times

In the future Kurumoch Airport is planning to expand the Wi-Fi coverage area and enlarge the range of high technology services for its passengers.

The CITA DCS check-in system was put in operation at Kurumoch Airport

The SITA Departure Control System (SITA DCS) that is an automatic passenger and baggage check-in system implemented at Kurumoch International Airport is now used as a main departure control system of the Airport.

One of the key advantages of the SITA DCS is a capability of through check-in of transfer passengers who have to change their flights on the way of their journey. A transfer passenger who has checked in and dropped the baggage in Samara will get it at the destination point. Thereby the system helps to shorten flight connection time and relieves the passengers of the necessity to pick up the baggage and check in again at transfer airport.

Besides, implementation of new system is currently important due to electronic tickets popularity. The program keeps in touch with the airlines’ booking systems and automatically makes the list of passengers who bought the tickets via the Internet.

The SITA DCS is compatible with any booking system and is able to check in passengers and their baggage, perform the aircraft balance and prepare the relevant documentation in accordance with international standards. Implementation of new system upgrades Kurumoch International Airport by changing the local check-in system to the centralized check-in control system for passengers and their baggage.

Kurumoch Airport appreciates the airlines’ suggestions and introduces the latest modern technologies of handling process in order to improve the passenger service quality and optimize the work of air carriers operating in the Samara Region. For these purposes Samara airport is also operating such automatic host check-in systems as “SABRE”, “Regina”, “Astra” and “Pictures”.

Kurumoch International Airport implemented the World Tracer automatic baggage tracing system

Multifunctional worldwide system called “World Tracer” is a service provided for automatic tracking of lost or mishandled baggage.

Today the World Tracer system developed by SITA and IATA integrates about 90% of international air traffic organizations including more than 440 airlines and 2200 airports all over the world that makes the baggage tracking process more effective.

The automatic global system helps to find the lost baggage very easy and quickly. In case a passenger did not find his baggage on arrival, he should refer to baggage handling agent and show the baggage tag. After that the act of baggage non-delivery shall be drawn up specifying all the external baggage characteristics such as color, shape, material, labels, wheels or handles availability, as well as the owner information and others.

All the abovementioned information is recorded into the common World Tracer database. At the same time the baggage handling agent who has found out an unclaimed baggage in another airport fills in a standard file describing the baggage itself and detection circumstances. The system immediately starts an automatic search process comparing all the lost and unclaimed baggage files. The baggage tracing specialists of the troubled airports get the relevant massage and process the received information. They should decide if it is the same suitcase or just a similar one. In case of coincidence of lost and unclaimed baggage information the airports arrange the suitcase delivery to the appropriate passenger. Usually this baggage is rushed on the nearest flight.

All the aviation experts are sure that implementation and modernization of such tracking systems not only optimize the baggage tracing process but also decrees the possibility of baggage lost during the air transportation.

The Aviation Training Centre at Kurumoch Airport offers a new Aviation English language training program for pilots and air traffic controllers, starting September.

The language room where the training is performed is now equipped with anetworked personal computer and headset (headphone and microphone apparatus) ateach seat. This allows a teacher to act as an air traffic controller and speakeither to the whole group or to a student individually, but also to useaudio-visual teaching aids. Each student being placed in a real time simulatedair traffic environment that includes contextually accurate background radiochatter and control instructions.

This allows a pilot or an air traffic controller in training to be fullyimmersed in the atmosphere of a western airport, but also to use the languagefor both phraseology and plain English in radiotelephony in routine and non-routinecommunications.

The lesson materials used in our Aviation English courses have beendeveloped by RMIT English Worldwide - Melbourne, one of Australia’smost experienced English language schools, and created specifically for ICAOEnglish proficiency training.

In order to evaluate the languageproficiency level of the pilots and air traffic controllers who have completedtraining at the Aviation Training Centre of Kurumoch, a criterion-referencedproficiency test, RMIT English Language Test for Aviation (RELTA), is usedhere. The RELTA has been developed by the specialists of the above-mentioned Australia’seducational institution and is used to assess speaking and listeningproficiency in the six language criteria: Pronunciation, Structure, Vocabulary,Fluency, Comprehension and Interaction for the six ICAO levels.

Kurumoch International Airport has concluded a corresponding agreement withMoscow Aviation Institute that directly collaborates with RMIT University:therefore, the students’ language proficiency level is now assessed here atSamara by two trained and accredited raters. A final decision on whether thesepilots or air traffic controllers meet the ICAO language proficiencyrequirements is taken by an independent expert in Melbourne, after receipt of a CD containing therecorded interactions between the teacher and the student during the exam atSamara.

Two groups of pilots have successfully completed this new AviationEnglish language training program by now. Nearly 90 per cent of those participantshave demonstrated their English language proficiency at ICAO Operational Level4 of the ICAO Language Proficiency Rating Scale and been licensed to operate oninternational routes.

For reference:

The AirportAviation Training Centre was opened in 2004. It provides the highest qualityprofessional ground staff training, from basic training and refresher coursesthrough to further education and supplementary professional qualifications.

Since 2009, the Aviation Training Centre hasbeen offering a number of basic training courses and refresher courses, amongwhich are the following: General and Aviation English for Pilots and FlightCrews (ICAO levels 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4), Aviation English for Pilots (ICAO levels4 and 5 for those using English and R/T communication on international routes),as well as basic training courses on Aviation Law, International FlightOperations, and Meteorological Service for International Air Navigation.Besides, anAviationEnglish language training program for foreign built aircraft maintenance engineershas been developed and approved.

, Head of Project Department of Ministry of Industry, Energyand Technology of the Samara Region
Maxim Barov
, Director General of Aviacor– Aviation Plant
Alexey Gusev
, Director General of State Research &Production Space Rocket Center (TsSKB-Progress)
Alexey Kirilin
, and DirectorGeneral of Kurumoch International Airport

During thepress conference, issues concerning the establishment of the Maintenance andRepair Center for Foreign and Russian Aircraft (MRO Center) on the territoriesof Kurumoch Airport and Samara Aviation Plant were discussed (last week thecorresponding Letter of Intent was signed within the framework of the MAKS-2009).When answering the reporters’ questions, Mr Shvarts, Director General of theAirport, emphasized that nowadays in Russia there is no integratedcenter for simultaneous maintenance of foreign and Russian built aircraft.

Also discussed were issues concerning the creation of a new Samara-baseairline. In 2008, Kurumoch Airport’s initiative to revive and develop intra-regionaland local services was approved by Ministry of Transport, Communications andRoads of the Samara Region, while the regionalGovernment appropriated the funds for the development of a Feasibility Studyfor this project. The Feasibility Study is expected to be finished soon, with variousforms of business legal structures as part of it. Within the framework of theMAKS-2009, aLetter of Intent between Kurumoch International Airportand Aviakor – Aviation Plant for the acquisition of 5 aircraft for the new airlinehas already been signed.

Within the framework of the MAKS 2009 Air Show, a Letter of Intent for the launch of the Maintenance and Repair Center for Foreign and Russian Aircraft in Samara was signed.

The Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed on August 20 between the Partiesinvolved in the joint launch and development of the Centre, namely: the

Ministryof Transport, Communications and Roads of the Samara Region, KurumochInternational Airport
,
IsraelAerospace Enterprise Ltd.
(represented by
Bedek Aviation Group
), and A
viakor –Aviation Plant
in Samara. The document was signed following preliminary worksand negotiations the Parties had been holding for a year.

Nowadays, in the fleet of most Russian carriers, foreign-manufacturedaircraft predominate over those made in this country. However, only a fewaviation market players are experienced enough to perform heavy maintenanceservices such as C-Check and D-Check, which is why Russian carriers have tohave a considerable part of these services carried out abroad.

The purpose of the development of the Maintenance and Repair Center for Foreign and Russian Aircraft (MRO Centre) in the Samara region isto solve that problem – Samara has a high potential to develop this kind ofaircraft maintenance services on the base of Kurumoch Airportand local aviation enterprises. Kurumoch and Aviakor have dedicated hangarspaces, highly-skilled and well-trained maintenance staff, with a workingknowledge of the English language. Additionally, there is access to new humanresources, among which are graduates of the SamaraState AerospaceUniversity (with its instructors who havebeen trained to teach foreign aircraft (Boeing, Airbus) maintenance trainingcourses) and the Aviation Transport Collegeat Kurumoch Airport.
